For this reason the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) which belongs to the German Department of Trade and Industry, should also be turned into a commodity agency, supporting the economy in overcoming the challenges arising from commodity issues. Investments in raw material deposits, which in other economies are on the agenda, are specifically not meant here. As the Handelsblatt shows in its recently published article “German Gold – millions in the waste bins”, secondary commodities could play a far more important role in the future, especially when it is important to reduce dependency on the primary raw material suppliers.
